Hydrate Detroit is a 501 (c)3 organization that provides advocacy and restoration of water services for citizens in the city of Detroit that have had their water shut off. Hydrate Detroit mission is to help citizens of Detroit that have their water turned off by providing emergency water and helping to restore their water service with the Detroit Water and Sewage Department (DWSD). We help our clients settle their water bill and help pay any down payment needed to restore water service in their homes. We are the only support organization that assists citizens with plumbing issues and repairs, which help lower their water bills. Hydrate Detroit services senior citizens, disabled residents, veterans, and families with small children to get water restored and work towards a solution to get their water bills zeroed out. Hydrate Detroit has created and continue to advocate for the DWSD to adopt a water affordability plan that will allow citizens living in poverty to be protected from water shut offs. Water is a human right.
Since Covid there has been a moratorium on water shut offs but there is still a large number of citizens whose water bill is more than they can pay. We are working to secure funding to pay down the debts of our clients so when the moratorium is lifted these people are will not be shut off again
