3rd Circle Inc.

3rd Circle is a non-profit organization that develops personalized support services for people experiencing disability. Rooted in the philosophy of Gentle Teaching, 3rd Circle strives to strengthen the fabric of companionship and community for all those we serve. Our innovative approach to care giving is grounded in the recognition and celebration of the intrinsic value of each individual. At 3rd Circle, we embrace a language whereby intentional word choices represent a philosophy and practice of valuing those we support. Rather than ‘running group homes’, 3rd Circle supports individuals living in their own home. Instead of ‘placing clients into programs’, 3rd Circle assists individuals to discover their own talents and interests, to live according to their own values, and to strive to reach their personal goals. 3rd Circle is committed to providing support to people experiencing disability whose support needs are not currently being fulfilled. At 3rd Circle, Supportive Living encompasses a wide range of in-home support based on individual needs, personal lifestyle preferences, community norms, and equality of citizenship. Support provided by 3rd Circle celebrates the individuality and value of each person and centers on the development of meaningful relationships within the community. Gentle Teaching is the principle philosophy adopted by 3rd Circle, which is a philosophy of life that embodies such 3rd Circle values as: wholeness of life, equality, justice, quality of service, and integrity. In our relationships with those we support, we are first and foremost teachers of gentleness. Our teaching tools are our hands, our words, our eyes, and our presence. We use our hands to express unconditional love and affection; we use our words to uplift, encourage, and honor those we serve; we use our eyes to gaze into their hearts to bring love, understanding, and warmth; we use our presence to comfort and develop a sense of companionship and community. Four Pillars of Gentle Teaching: SAFE: When you are with us, you are safe. These hands will never hurt you. These words will never put you down. LOVED: You are not only safe with us, you are loved unconditionally. LOVING: It is good to ‘be loving’ toward others. ENGAGED: It is good to be with us, do things with us, and even do things for others. Why These Principles? Feeling safe and loved, followed by loving and engaged, are the 3rd Circle cornerstones for emotional and spiritual development. These lessons are what we have to teach, as they are the foundation for all learning and growth. It is only when people feel safe and loved that the doors open for them to be loving and engaged. When this happens, their community can grow, and their sense of belonging, happiness and peace will flourish.
