More Details

For Goodness Sake (FGS) was founded in 2013 to provide donated furniture to people moving into new homes after being homeless. In January 2019, we served our 1,000th client, and we are growing quickly—we expect to help over 400 additional families in 2019. FGS is run entirely by volunteers, with people of all ages coming together every weekend to move furniture, sort household goods, and help our clients pick out what they need.

The seed for FGS was planted out of an overflow situation at St. Vincent DePaul. Women and their children were leaving the shelter with nothing but an apartment key and whatever they could carry. People, without exception, need a safe place to lay their heads, to raise their families, and feel at home.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and we partner with local social service agencies to help people in Central Connecticut who are recovering from homelessness or some other severe life crisis. Our clients are moving into empty apartments and cannot afford the basic furniture that makes a house into a home.

We are able to provide furniture for our clients because we solve a common problem for individuals and businesses in the community—we remove unwanted furniture. We are the “problem solver” for families who are downsizing, real estate investors cleaning out houses, furniture stores dealing with returns, and towns struggling to reduce the amount of waste going to the landfill.
