Launched in 2021, Rocket Mortgage Classic is Changing the Course. The Rocket Giving Fund’s mission is to host a world-class PGA TOUR event while simultaneously benefiting the Detroit community. The Organization’s primary fundraising activity is the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Detroit’s annual PGA TOUR event. The net proceeds realized by the event and other such activities and events will support its new “Changing the Course” initiative, a multi-year campaign with a vision that every Detroit resident has access to the internet, technology and digital literacy training they deserve within five years. The COVID-19 pandemic has shined a light on a number of unaddressed underlying issues in Detroit – internet accessibility being one of the most severe. One of the ways the Rocket Mortgage Classic is raising funds for this initiative is the AREA 313 Challenge. TOUR players will compete to make an eagle, ace, birdie (3-1-3) on holes 14, 15 and 16 on each of the 4 days of tournament play. The first golfer to achieve this feat will win $313,000 in their name towards RGF charities connected to digital access and Detroit’s digital divide. Rocket Mortgage is taking AREA 313 two steps further this year. Anytime a player hits a “3” or “1” or “3,” on the respective holes, there will be a direct donation made by Rocket Mortgage. A “3” or Eagle on hole 14 will amount to a $2,500 donation, a “1” or Hole-In-One on hole 15 will amount to a $10,000 donation, and a “3” or Birdie on hole 16 will amount to a $2,500 donation.
