More Details

Simsbury Community Television, inc (dba: Simsbury Community Media) was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 1984 to provide Public Access programming to the residents of Simsbury who subscribe to cable TV services.  It has expanded to include PEG (Public, Educational and Governmental) programming on three Comcast channels; 5 (1084), 95 (1070), and 96 (1090).

Originally, volunteers not only produced the programs but volunteered to switch the tapes in and out of the tape players for playback.  Then the process became automated requiring a once a day loading of the decks for playback.  In 2009, the station entered the digital age with storage and playback of shows from digital files stored on a server. Volunteers provide the manpower for producing programs, operating cameras, and editing, and the creating and enacting of policy.

SCM believes in the First Amendment right of Freedom of Speech.  Any individual or group that lives or works in Simsbury may use the SCM facilities to learn how to produce a program to inform their fellow citizens.  SCM does not monitor for content but asks that programming be appropriate for children during daytime hours.

SCM will provide Simsbury residents with the tools and training necessary to produce programs that an individual or group thinks the community will find of interest.
