Since 1968, Enfield Food Shelf has supported the needs of food-insecure families. We envision a community in which everyone has access to nutritious food through a sustainable and collaborative distribution network which provides not only food but an awareness to programs and resources for assistance and nutrition-based education. Currently we have 9 programs across which we distribute the equivalent of more than 700,000 meals annually. Each program is designed to make food accessible and to break down barriers commonly associated with seeking food assistance. With 80+ weekly volunteers spanning a wide range of ages, backgrounds, ethnicities, socio-economic status and physical/mental capabilities, we take pride in our volunteer culture and work purposefully to create a welcoming environment for all. More than 3,000 individuals shop with us each year in our grocery-style pantry, choosing perishable products such as meats, fresh vegetables, breads and desserts; shelf-stable items such as pastas, cereals, soups, canned vegetables, snacks and drink; and, non-food items such as pet foods, toiletries, laundry detergent, clothing and shoes. These additional programs exist to support seniors, young working families, unhoused individuals, homebound people, and those experiencing emergencies.
