About Chrysalis Center:

Chrysalis Center helps individuals living below the poverty level and struggling with food insecurity, dealing with substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, and release from incarceration and homelessness. Our services have grown beyond community support services and case management to include community employment services, community supportive housing, recovery services, and affordable housing.

We believe that each person, regardless of illness, disability, or life circumstance, has strengths, skills, and experiences to build on. We work to offer quality services that respect the dignity of each person and their cultural background. We offer hope and guidance as individuals make choices to rebuild their lives. Chrysalis Center offers a continuum of services in five core areas:

Housing: Housing is the most important basic need each of our clients must have to gain stability. Community Supportive Housing Services is a combination of housing and case management services intended to help support individuals and families coming from homelessness. Supportive housing is a “best practices” national model proven to transition individuals from homelessness to stable and affordable housing with wrap-around supports. Chrysalis Center has provided supportive housing services for over twenty years.

Food: Chrysalis Center’s FOOD HUB includes a variety of programs and initiatives which address the critical issue of food insecurity and lack of fresh and nutritious foods in the community through innovative and hands-on approaches:

  • Freshplace Food Pantry
  • Urban Roots Hydroponic Grow Center
  • Homestead Farmer’s
  • Railway Gardens
  • Food Forest at Cosgrove
  • La Cocina Culinary Arts Training Program and La Cocina Catering

Recovery: Chrysalis Center believes recovery is a journey and provides support in all programs for recovery focusing on an individual’s need. Whether they have a mental illness, history of substance abuse, or both, Chrysalis Center helps individuals successfully manage their diagnoses so they can lead independent and self-sufficient lives.

Community Support: People experiencing mental illness, homelessness, substance abuse, HIV/AIDS or release from incarceration may need help finding and accessing resources in the community to manage life struggles. Chrysalis Center’s Community Support Services and Case Management programs provide links to community supports and resources to help people navigate through challenges.

Employment: As one of Connecticut’s leading organizations serving people living with mental illness and returning from homeless populations, Chrysalis Center understands the need to develop and offer employment training services, which provide individuals the opportunity to become employed and self-sufficient. Individuals work with their case manager on a plan to identify career choices and obtain employment. Case managers support individuals in a variety of ways, including, but not limited to: education and job training, resume writing, job searches, mock interviews and online applications.
