More Details

Elbowbumpkid Inc is a volunteer run/community funded nonprofit. Our mission is to provide families impacted with Type 1 Diabetes with the opportunity to connect, thrive, learn and grow despite the diagnosis. Elbowbumpkid Inc raises critical funds that subsidize education events, local community events, college programs, annual celebration cards, scholarship grants and partnerships for local initiatives that support the T1D community. Resources to attend social and educational events that are critical to families physical, mental health and well-being are crucial to the community. Being surrounded by peers and learning from other families is imperative to long-term success in managing the disease.

Our impact continues to be significant. Our programs include caregiver events, subsidized events for children, targeted education events, scholarships, program for college students living with Type 1 away from home, a card program to support children on the anniversary of their diagnosis, and we continue to support the efforts of local endocrinology with their diabetes camp, Teddy Bear clinic and other diabetes related initiatives. 2024 program highlights:

  • We facilitated 30 subsidized programs in 2024, 50% of those were free for families with the remainder subsidized by donations and grants.
  • Our in person programs and webinars touched over 800 community members in 2024
  • We provided snacks and goody bags for Camp Pathfinder, the only T1D day camp in CT
  • We mailed 248 diaversary cards to help community members celebrate their accomplishments despite their diagnosis.
  • We mailed 19 college care packages to students living away from home with Type 1 Diabetes.
  • Established new Girl Power program, focused on connecting T1D girls aged 8-16 with separate targeted events.

We are proud of our impact - a testimonial:
"Jacob was diagnosed with Type 1 one year ago today. I am so proud of him and the person he is becoming. He has truly showed us his strength and courage. This disease is awful and it came with quite a few emotional lows. Our family was sponsored by a local nonprofit Elbowbumpkid to attend Friends for Life education event. This was truly a turning point for Jacob. Jacob came back with a new outlook, more confident and happy. The other kids learned and watched as other families coped with the same struggle Jacob has too. It was an amazing time for us to learn and better ourselves with and for Jacob."

Our community is facing not just an increased volume of children with Jacob being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and also with other autoimmune conditions like celiac disease. We are focusing a few of our programs on these populations to help families learn to adapt including additional parent support, social connection events & more. While we are actively holding fundraisers and requesting items from local businesses for our spring fundraiser, we need your help to grow our programming and expand our reach.

Your support is crucial to our efforts to connect the community. If you’re able, we would truly appreciate a monetary donation of any amount to help us achieve our mission. Please feel free to contact us directly at samantha@elbowbumpkidinc.org if you have any questions or would like any additional information. Thank you in advance for your support of our mission!
