More Details

We help Haitians heal Haitians with a commitment to serving the poor and supporting a reliable, consistent and sustainable healthcare system for medically-underserved villagers in and around Port-au-Prince.

MATH Board of Directors, Committee, and mission team members are all volunteers, allowing 95% of all contributions to go toward the funds needed to support the local Haitian staff, special projects, and medical supplies for Hôpital Bellevue-La-Montagne.

Donations are transferred safely and directly to Dr. Wilkens, hospital administrator and surgeon. Monthly reports on patient services and receipts for the use of funds are provided.  Dr. Wilkens is committed to his vision and appreciates these avenues for support,  “We are so grateful for the unfailing support you (sic MATH) bring us and that you do this with the greatest respect for our dignity…Only true and pure love can explain your continued support despite the troubles in my country, and only true and pure love can explain the determination we have to honor your support and keep this community hospital going."

Past support received through Birdies for Charity has allowed expansion of services for labor & delivery, pediatrics, and imaging services.

Port-au-Prince Project

Current State:  Even during this turbulent time in Haiti, the hospital is open 24 / 7 to serve the community of 150,000 in and around the mountain village of L’Oiseau, Marlique, Pétion-ville. Services include primary, maternal (OB / GYN), and pediatric health care, emergency medical care, general surgery, imaging services (radiology and ultrasound), ophthamology and dental services, and supported more than 6,000 patient visits in 2024.

2024 GOAL:  Continued support of resources with a focus to enhance and expand surgical services; e.g., a second anesthesia machine, and laparoscopic equipment and tools.

Mission Trips

Current State:  Mission teams of US medical and non-medical professionals travel to Haiti up to 4 times a year.   Additional surgical and specialty services (oncology, urology, ophthalmology, dental, etc.), and collaborative training are conducted.  At this time, concerns for team safety is preventing travel, but the hospital and clinics remain open with Haitians healing Haitians, and medical seminars are held through virtual media.

2024 GOAL:  Expand collaboration with Haitians staff through virtual media.
