Hartford Youth Scholars is dedicated to powering young minds and futures in the City of Hartford. We prepare our Scholars to earn a college degree by providing 10+ years of exceptional educational opportunities and ongoing, comprehensive supports. From The Collegiate Academy to our High School and College Success programs, we cultivate intellectual curiosity in our Scholars, equipping them to excel academically and become future leaders. The Collegiate Academy (TCA) is our signature 26-month program of co-curricular study. Starting the summer before 7th grade, Scholars spend summers and Saturdays engaged in rigorous academic training to prepare them for high school and beyond. Scholars further participate in out-of-classroom learning opportunities, workshops, community building events, and experiential activities to enrich their academic and social experiences. Beginning the summer before 8th grade, Scholars and families collaborate with HYS staff to find the high school that best meets each Scholar’s academic aspirations, needs, and ability level. High School Scholars participate in a comprehensive set of programs aimed at college readiness, including SAT/ACT preparation and College Applications and Admission “Boot Camp,” all with the goal to remove barriers to college admission, ensure successful matriculation, and ultimately college completion. In 2024, 91% of Hartford Youth Scholars completed a 4-year degree within 6 years, as compared to the national rate of 41% of low-income, first-generation college students completing a 4-year degree in 6 years.
