Our mission is to provide academic, career, and financial support to help first-generation, low-income students earn a post-secondary degree or certification and enter the workforce.
Momentum Education launched in 2020 and is an educational non-profit focused on helping first-generation, low-income students get to and through post-secondary education (college or community college). Currently, less than 30% of all low-income high school students earn a post-secondary education; whereas, 72% of jobs require a post-secondary education. This disparity traps low-income students in poverty and prevents them from achieving economic mobility.
We partner with high school students to recruit students and then provide support throughout high school. Our High School Fellowship Program includes an Academic Advisor who helps the studnets navigate high school, college applications, and financial aid. In addition to this full-time Advisor, we also have a technology platform wherein students can submit their college application essays for feedback, search for scholarships, and attend career webinars.
Once students reach college or community college, they enter our Post-Secondary Fellowship Program. Through this program, we provide our students with two mentors: (1) a peer mentor who is an older student at the college or community college they attend and (2) a young professional mentor who is in the same career field that they want to enter. These two mentors help the students transition to college or community college, succeed academically, build key career skills, find internships, and secure a job upon graduation.
Finally, all our High School and Post-Secondary Fellows receive a stipend each semester they are in the program. These funds help them fund their educational expenses.
Currently, we have 1,200 students in our program with 82 alumni who have graduated from college and are now in the workforce or graduate school. Moreover, we have an 80% post-secondary enrollment rate, a 75% post-secondary graduation rate, and an 88% job or graduate school placement rate.
