Sea Scouts Ship 1909 (BSA) - S.A.L.T.Y Foundation

The official Sea Scout Mission is the same as the Boy Scouts mission: To prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices and to internalize the Scout Oath and Law. We just do that on boats.

More Details

Ship 1909 is a Sea Scout ship based at Rhode Island's East Greenwich Yacht Club and chartered through the S.A.L.T.Y Foundation. Our moto is "We Do Everything Water". Our age demographic is a bit higher than a typical Scouting organization and starts at 14 and goes to 21 and we are all gender welcome organization. We are a group of adult leaders and scouts that form a service organization that participates in water based activities to teach kids about seamanship, vessel operations, water safety, sailboat racing, scuba diving and cruising/exploring overnights on boats.

Since Covid, our ship has doubled in size (primarily young ladies ) and has become finically challenged since all of our fundraising is done via food events hosted at our chartering Yacht club. We are seeking financial support so we can continue our education programs and our exploration trips in the New England water ways. We are in the process of starting a scuba program which would give our scouts a lifelong PADI scuba certification at the substantial discounted rate needed for our Scouts.
