More Details

Tail To Paw Animal Support is an all-volunteer non-profit that works to ensure that no owner has to abandon their companion animal on the streets or at a shelter due to their poverty level or housing status. Tail To Paw provides assistance with food, supplies, basic medical visits and vaccinations.  We offer support through education, resources, referrals and case management so that no animal is left behind and no human is left alone.

We see the human-animal bond as one that is vital to both the pet and owner’s existence.  When things are at their worst, most will strive to provide for their animals, ignoring their own most basic needs.  Tail To Paw wants to help that to not have to be an option.  People should not have to make the decision to feed themselves or their pets, but not both, due to a brief or temporary economic hardship.  They should not have to be forced to permanently surrender their companions due to temporary homelessness when they have lost their income and have been evicted.

Tail To Paw works to connect the human with case management resources and referrals while making sure that their animals can remain where they belong; right by their side.

Tail To Paw was founded in 2016 as a result of a direct response of co-founder Bobbi Jo Evans working with the homeless and low-income population.  All too often, she found her clients forced to decide between their own basic needs or those of their pets.  Realizing she had to do something to assist, she and her daughter started Tail To Paw.  We work with many area local homeless shelters and local mental health agencies, Veteran agencies and social service agencies to provide assistance to those who need it the most.

To date, we have assisted over 265households with providing care to their animals so that they can maintain them in their homes or with them.  We have also assisted over 25 families who needed to surrender animals due to the death or hospitalization of family members by rehoming the animals including complete veterinarian care.

Everyone that we work with are low-income households, and those at risk of homelessness or homeless.  We work with Veterans and elderly, as well as those disabled.  Our geographic range is Greater New Haven, CT but we do not refuse to assist anyone in CT that we are able to help.
