More Details

The Malta House of Care's mission is to mobilize volunteers, partners, and donors to improve the overall health and well-being of uninsured adults in Greater Hartford by providing free primary care health services. Our clinics provide high quality, comprehensive, culturally competent primary medical services to uninsured adults at no cost to the patient to alleviate the striking healthcare disparities in the Greater Hartford region. A fully equipped 40-foot Mobile Clinic visits economically distressed and medically unserved neighborhoods on a fixed weekly schedule, while our Stationary Clinic serves patients in the Asylum Hill neighborhood. Our work is 100% funded by philanthropy -- from individuals, corporations, foundations, and family funds. In the more than 17 years since our opening volunteer doctors, nurses and a small permanent staff have provided over 77,000 comprehensive primary healthcare visits at no cost to the patient. In 2023 alone, clinicians provided 4,804 health care visits to uninsured Hartford-Area residents or approximately 1,295 individuals, a 14% increase in individual patients over 2022. Throughout Malta's history, our Clinic has proven to be lifesaving in providing consistent care to those most in need in the Greater Hartford Region. Malta's small paid staff and a passionate corps of 50+ licensed medical volunteers, provide medical consultations, examinations, cancer screenings, vaccinations and immunizations, diagnostic testing, radiological imaging, and required medications to uninsured adults for their primary healthcare needs, management of chronic conditions, and treatment of acute conditions - bringing hope, saving lives, and keeping families healthy, one patient at a time. Malta serves uninsured adults in the Greater Hartford area. In 2023, our patients reported being from over 78 CT zip codes including 40% from Hartford; 21% from East Hartford; 9% from West Hartford; and 8% from Manchester.
