Since 1893, the Meriden Humane Society (MHS) has been a not-for-profit no-kill animal shelter and rescue facility in CT.  Many of our animals are taken from high risk situations such as cruelty/hoarding investigations, abandoned strays and private residents who can no longer care for their animals.  

The Meriden Humane Society is one of the longest running animal welfare organizations in Connecticut and works tirelessly to serve animals and its community.  In the last five years alone, MHS welcomed over 2200 homeless animals.  These animals were vaccinated, spayed/ neutered, afforded all the medical care they required, and most have moved on to loving homes. MHS’s commitment to ensuring each animals receives the high quality medical care it deserves is costly - we spend nearly $150,000 annually in veterinary and medical expenses, accounting for over 1/2 of our budget.
