Groton Community Meals is a Groton-based free meal program for those seeking fellowship and nourishment.
Groton Community Meals (GCM) was founded in 2014 as a joint initiative of Groton Human Services and the local Faith Community. GCM started serving free, hot dinner meals at a local church and has since expanded to the Groton Senior Center (Monday nights) and a local elementary school (Wednesday nights.) GCM is an all-volunteer organization with the exception of its chef, who is paid a stipend for each meal night. GCM serves an average of 300 meals weekly and has recently received American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding through the Town of Groton for a Mobile Meals Services (MMS) which will allow GCM to purchase a pick-up truck and food trailer and take its meal program to underserved neighborhoods in Groton. Groton Community Meals partners with the local United Way Food Bank in New London as well as CT Food Share.
