Friends of Feeney is excited to be a participant in this year's Birdies for Charity program through the Travelers Championship. Thanks to our #friends at Webster Bank, all donations from now through June 23rd will receive a 15% match. In addition, the program covers all processing fees, meaning 115% of your donation will directly support our mission to support children and families who need assistance after heartbreak or tragedy. 

About us:

Friends of Feeney is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in West Hartford with the mission of supporting children and families who need assistance after heartbreak and tragedy. Since 2019, we have raised over $150,000 to support over 50 families in the greater Hartford area while adopting the motto, Be A Good Friend. 

As a community-based organization, Friends of Feeney is proud to collaborate with local businesses to organize events that bring people together, all while raising money and awareness for those in need. As a teacher and resident of West Hartford with children currently attending West Hartford Public Schools, Eric Feeney, our founder and president, has a vested interest in the continued growth and success of the community and its surrounding area. Friends of Feeney looks to find support from the many kind individuals, neighbors, colleagues, friends and local businesses throughout this caring community. 

Friends of Feeney is a 100% volunteer-led organization made up of a board of directors and a strong community support network. 

Our history:

Although Eric Feeney already had a few years on teaching under his belt, in 2014, he began his teaching career in West Hartford. It was then that Sam Sohn, a father of one of his students, suddenly passed away from a heart attack. He left behind four beautiful children and a loving wife, Nancy Wallace-Sohn. Eric could see first hand the toll that it was taking on the family as they tried to navigate their way through.

The following year, another student in Eric’s classroom lost his father, Rashad Collier Sr., to a murder in Hartford, leaving behind two fantastic children and another loving wife, Denise Villegas. The impact of all of these tragedies became very hard for Eric to cope with and the stress motivated him to truly get involved. He had to do something! Friends of Feeney was created, and in 2019, became a registered nonprofit.

The collective effort to support those in need has created an incredible community of children and families who care for and appreciate each other’s kindness. West Hartford and the surrounding communities is a powerful place for helping others!
