The Susan D. Flynn Oncology Nursing Development Program was founded by Fred Flynn in loving memory of his wife Susan, who died of Ovarian Cancer in 2013. Its primary program is a Fellowship (summer Internship) which provides aspiring undergraduate nursing students with a comprehensive clinical immersion in all aspects of oncology nursing and expert training in compassionate care, including palliative care. Our program partners include many of the country's leading cancer hospitals and nursing schools.
Our unique Fellowship program is successfully addressing the need for more and better trained Oncology Nurses. Since its inception in 2014, 232 aspiring nurses (i.e. Flynn Fellows) have completed our Fellowship program and of the 220 in the workforce so far, 150 are already Oncology Nurses!
The average Internship cost of of a Flynn Fellow is $5,000. Our Fundraising Goal of $15,000 will cover the cost of 3 of our planned Flynn 32 Fellows in 2022.
Testimonials
“The Flynn Fellowship program solidified my desire to be an Oncology Nurse. The opportunities I had to learn what it takes to care for the oncology population were truly life changing. I am now much more confident in my abilities to provide excellent and comprehensive care during my future Oncology nursing career.”
