Restoring Justice, founded in Houston, TX, exists to ensure that every accused person with need in America receives their rightful representation. Since 2016, we have provided client-centered legal representation and wrap-around social services to indigent people in Harris County (home to 22% of Texas’s overloaded indigent defense attorney problem). In the past 6 years we have leveraged our client-centered work to influence systemic change. We have represented over 170 clients on over 200 cases and bailed out 113 people being detained pre-trial. In July 2021, Harris County approved a measure that will stop the practice of overloaded court-appointed attorneys county-wide in response to our campaign. During another reporting campaign from Sept. 2020 – March 2022, the average felony appointment rate to the high-quality Harris County Public Defender Office increased by 14%. We’ve proven our client-centered model causes systemic change.
