Emancipation Park Conservancy

The mission of Emancipation Park Conservancy is to enhance Emancipation Park by preserving its integrity and enriching its heritage as a local, state, national, and international landmark. Emancipation Park Conservancy understands the priorities of Houston's Third Ward, a historic African-American community, and maintains its historical significance by recognizing the legacy of segregation and its impact on the resident community. The over-arching goal of the project is to share historic information from the perspective of those who were enslaved and the path of generations who followed to improve community strength and well-being. Sharing a detailed history will elevate discourse, heighten knowledge and provide an accurate view of African-American history and triumph over crushing adversity. The Conservancy is a dedicated place-point for area residents and visitors from across the state, nation and globe who want to explore the dynamic history of Houston's African-American community via a public facility that preserves the area's historic roots and integrity.
