Books for Development

Our mission is to address the book famine that exists in many developing countries by • accepting donated books • using volunteers to sort and re-box books • creating community, school and mobile libraries • improving literacy through access to reading material and thereby improve lifestyles. In doing this, we will maximize our resources and embody the principle of the Good Steward, our original moniker.

More Details

Books for Development has shipped over 1 million books to underserved and neglected communities in 8 countries in Central America and East Africa.  What started as a church mission trip in 2011 has grown into an independent, all-volunteer run organization that collects donated books, sorts and packs these books onto shipping containers.  Libraries are then established in remote areas, most in need of improved education and literacy. We also share books with the Harris County jail and support local school libraries in need of additional resources.             We encourage and support student volunteers and anyone who values and treasures a good book!
