More Details

The Amistad Center for Art & Culture, founded in 1987, owns and exhibits a vital collection of more than 7,000 works of art, artifacts and popular culture objects that documents the experience, expressions and history of people of African descent in America. We are located in the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, the nation’s oldest public art museum. This is a unique institutional partnership that extends the opportunity for a broad audience and cross-cultural conversations. The Amistad Center is an independent 501(c) 3 organization, governed by a Board of Trustees and responsible for raising funds to support its exhibitions, programs, collection care, and operations.
